Professional development

The Northern Ireland Directorate works closely with colleagues in the Education and Professional Development department in London on core areas of both curriculum development and professional development and practice. In addition the directorate provides input to other national professional development issue of relevance to EHPs for example the UK Public Health Voluntary Register and the current work on National Occupational Standards for Public Health.

We also aim to keep our members and their colleagues up to date with knowledge of important, current and emerging issues on a broad range of environmental health and public health subjects as well as provide opportunities for developing skills and competencies and encouraging good practice.

Both the Directorate in Northern Ireland and the region seek to do this through the provision of relevant, quality, high value conferences and training courses. Many of these events are also relevant and accessible to current non members, including those who may not have specific environmental health qualifications, but nonetheless are directly involved in environmental and public health work.

There is also a programme of members meetings organised each year which provide free of charge opportunities for members to gain CPD credits; keep abreast of current issues; and provide opportunities for professional networking with colleagues.

Many of our events and courses qualify for the CIEH continuing personal development (CPD) points and comprehensive note on each topic.
