The CIEH recognises the significance of devolution in Northern Ireland and in particular the fact that through the NI Assembly Northern Ireland has its own government. We also recognise that structures, roles, and responsibilities for environmental health professionals living and working in Northern Ireland are also different.

Therefore in Northern Ireland we have established a CIEH Northern Ireland Directorate as a focus and hub for all CIEH Activities there.

The NI Directorate works on behalf of CIEH members in NI and assists CIEH to deliver its Royal Charter, vision, mission, and strategic goals in the context of Northern Ireland.

This includes working with a range of stakeholders including key policy makers; the key professional networks; and members. The scope of the NI Directorate work covers policy; research; professional development; and CIEH Events.

The NI Directorate works closely with the NI region and CIEH Colleagues in both London and Wales.

You can contact the NI Directorate as follows:

Address:   Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Northern Ireland
10A Clarendon Road
Northern Ireland
Telephone:   +44 (0)28 9024 3884

General Enquiries

We welcomes all enquiries. However if your enquiry relates to a particular complaint (e.g noise; odour; pollutions; accidents; illness etc) these should be directed to the local council environmental health department. The environmental health service for the general public in Northern Ireland operates through the 11 district councils and is responsible for a wide range of statutory health protection functions as well as being involved in heath improvement initiatives.

Should members of the public wish to contact their relevant EH Department, they can do so through their local Council and a full list of councils can be found here.
